You know it’s spring when you hear idols growling.

Derived from haru (spring) and uraraka (bright, beautiful, glorious), haruurara is a Japanese term used to refer to the wonder and beauty of spring. As such, you probably would not expect that a song titled haruurara would feature guttural growls and ear-piercing vocals. However, that’s exactly what you get when you listen to “Haruurara,” a recent songs by the heavy metal screaming idol group Broken By The Scream (BBTS).

The music video for “Haruurara” was released earlier this month. Featuring the mix of relentless guitar riffs, growls and sweet pop vocals that the groups has become known for, it’s definitely not the typical cheery spring-themed song that you would hear from other more mainstream idol groups like AKB48.

Check out the music video for “Haruurara” below.

Formed in 2016, Broken By The Scream has managed to make waves in the idol world thanks to their attention-grabbing style. While other idol groups that implement heavy metal elements into their music exist–most notably Babymetal–Broken By The Scream appears to have distinguished themselves by embracing a more hardcore and intense sound than many other similar groups.

The group is currently touring and has plans to perform in Taiwan and the U.S. In the U.S. they are set to perform as part of the Saboten Con anime convention in Arizona on August 30th and September 2nd.
