Let’s just hope there’s no drone crash landings in the middle of their concerts.

The Japanese company Drone Net, which sells drones and provides drone related services and information, and the Japanese talent agency HoriPro have temed up in order to create the world’s first drone themed pop idol music group.

Called Drone Venus, this six member female music group is the world’s first “Drone idol unit.”

Aside from the standard singing and dancing that any Japanese pop idol is expected to be able to do, the six members of Drone Venus all possess the skills necessary to safely pilot drones.

This interesting and somewhat unexpected team up is all part of an effort by Drone Net to promote and raise interest in drones and using drones. Whether this is an effective strategy remains to be seen though.

The group will make their big debut on December 10 at the Differ Ariake Arena in Tokyo during the mixed martial arts event Pancreas 292. After this the group is scheduled to appear at another Pancrase event on February 4 at the live performance venue Studio Coast in Tokyo.

No word on whether the songs the group will perform will be drone themed but that seems very likely.

Here’s a video of the Drone Venus girls piloting drones.

Along with announcing the formation of Drone Venus, some very drone-centric profiles of the group’s members were also released.

Meet the members of Drone Venus

First up, we have Seira Nakashima. She’s a former member of the pop idol group Nogizaka 46. Her drone of choice is the Mavic Pro and she’d like to use her drone to capture groups of sakura (cherry blossom) trees from above.

This young lady is named Misaki Momose. She also recommends the Mavic Pro and she’d like to use a drone to film the vast plains of Hokkaido.

Next up we have Chika Yamane. Her drone of choice is the Phantom 4 Advanced and she would just love to use her drown to take a picture of the group’s fans all gathered together. How lovely!

And here we have Moeno Nito, a former member of the popular idol group AKB48 (left in 2013). She too likes the Phantom 4 Advanced and would like to use her drone to film the autumn leaves.

Next is Anna Ishida, a former member of both SKE48 and AKB48. Anna also recommends the Phantom 4 Advanced. She would like to use her drone to film Tokyo at night.

And finally, here we have Suzuran Yamauchi. She, like Ishida, was also a member part of SKE48 and AKB48. Her drone of choice is also the Phantom 4 Advanced and she would like to use her drone to film the oceans of the Maldives. So exotic!

Happy droning!
