You can’t even trust the cops with your panties in Japan.

On Thursday (Jul. 20) police in Tokushima, Japan arrested a male police officer who allegedly broke into the residence of a female police officer and stole several pairs of her underwear.

According to the Tokushima Prefectural Police Department, somewhere between about 7:40 p.m. on July 18 and 9:40 a.m. on July 19, the suspect, a 23-year-old Naruto City male police officer named Kiyotaro Takashima, broke into the residence of a fellow Naruto City police officer in her 20s and stole four pairs of her underwear, which are estimated to have been worth approximately 2,000 JPY (18.00 USD).

Police say Takashima jumped a railing to get access to the veranda of the victim’s residence and then used a screwdriver to break a window and enter the residence.

Takashima was arrested on charges of breaking and entering, and theft. He has admitted to the charges. When questioned about the whereabouts of the stolen underwear he was quoted as saying “I got scared, so I threw them away.”

Police investigating the case were able to find the stolen underwear in the trash can of a Naruto City convenience store.

The Tokushima Prefectural Police Department has said that they will conduct a thorough investigation and deal with the matter in an impartial and strict manner.

Reports have yet to reveal how police came to suspect Takashima of having been the perpetrator of this crime.
