Police in Aichi Prefecture have arrested a man after he allegedly drove his car for almost a kilometer while the manager of an internet cafe he had just left without paying was clinging to his hood.

According to Aichi Prefectural Police, on the evening of May 21 at about 8:20 p.m., the suspect, a 37-year-old unemployed man with no known address, left an Obu City internet cafe without paying after having spent approximately 12 hours at the establishment. Noticing this the 43-year-old male manager of the internet cafe chased after the suspect.

Finding the suspect in his car in the parking lot of the internet cafe the manager attempted to stop him from leaving by jumping on the hood of his car. The suspect proceeded to drive the car anyway.

After driving for roughly 800 meters and noticing that he was unable to shake the manager off of the hood, the suspect stopped the car. The manager, who was uninjured, got off of the hood, restrained the suspect and called the police.

Police arrested the suspect that same evening under suspicion of attempted murder. The suspect has denied the allegations being made against him, reportedly saying to police “I didn’t intend to kill him.”
