On Thursday (Mar. 30), Tokyo Metropolitan Police reveled that they had arrested a male second year private high school student who they allege had stolen at least 34 boxes of razor blade refills from nultiple drug stores in Tokyo, in order to resell and buy pop idol goods.

According to police, in January of this year, the 17-year-old resident of Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, stole 34 boxes of razor refills (est. value 100,000 JPY/892 USD) from four drug stores located in various places around Tokyo, including Shinjuku Ward and Nakano Ward.

Police arrested the teenager on suspicion of theft. The suspect has admitted to the allegations, saying “I needed money to buy idol group goods at their events.”

Aside from the 34 boxes allegedly stolen in January, Mainichi Shinbun reports that police found another 86 boxes in the suspect’s residence, which brings the total amount of razor refill boxes police suspect the teen stole to 120 (est. value 420,000 JPY/3747 USD).

Mainichi Shinbun also reports that the suspect sold 10 boxes of the stolen blades to a friend of someone he met at an idol concert after he told the suspect “If you bring me 10 boxes I’ll give you 10,000 yen.” They report that the suspect sold the stolen blades on two different occasions in January and that he has admitted to having shoplifted on multiple occasions.
