Yurumerumo!’s New Music Video Is An Experiment In Controlled Chaos (Video)

3 min read

Last week (Mar. 11) the Japanese idol group Yurumerumo! (You’ll Melt More!) released a music video for “Furuete Yomigaere” (Shiver, Come Back to Life!, a song from the group’s new EP, Kodoku to Gyakushū, which is set to be released on March 15th.

This new music video, much like the song it is for, is far from what you’d expect to see from a Japanese idol group. There aren’t any cute outfits or adorable dance moves here. Instead, the director of the music video, Mani Kato, decided to shake things up by giving the girls the freedom to just go crazy and do whatever they wanted to. The result of this interesting directorial choice is total on-screen chaos that, in its own peculiar way, manages to go quite well with the very “unique” sound of the group’s new song.

Check out the video for yourself below.

If you enjoyed the unique style of Yurumerumo!’s newest music video, then you’ll be happy to hear that the video’s director, Mani Kato, has worked with the group on two previous occasions. Perhaps the most interesting of all three of their collaborations is the video for a song called “Hamidasumo.” What makes this one notable? All you need to know is that the video begins with a newscaster reporting in English that “Over in Japan, all the tap water has been turned into soy sauce by an unknown perpetrator.”

Lastly, there is the music video for “Mottomo Utsukushii Mono” (The Most Beautiful Thing). This one is definitely the most “normal” of the three collaborations between Yurumerumo! and Kato, so don’t expect anything like the previous two videos.
