Million Dollar Ultraman

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the original broadcast of the popular television series “Ultraman,” a Japanese Jeweler has made a solid gold bust of the legendary alien fighting hero.

The jeweler unveiled the solid gold bust at a Tokyo press even on January 25th. The bust took  3 months to make, measures about 30 cm (12 in) in height and is made of about 11 kg (24 lbs) worth of solid gold. It is valued approximately at 110,000,000 yen, or approximately slightly over 970,000 U.S. dollars. Unfortunately, it does not shoot lasers or grow in size.

The jeweler also unveiled far more affordable options for those wishing to commemorate Ultraman’s 50th anniversary in the form of Ultraman themed koban (gold coin) and gold plates.

The bust will be on display at the jeweler’s Ginza branch starting January 26th.

A video of the press event can be seen below. In it you can see Ultraman
himself unveiling the bust . The video also shows the other Ultraman
themed items that were commissioned by Bandai Namco Entertainment in
honor of Ultraman’s 50th anniversary.
